Manchester City and Liverpool dominate as Premier League announces Player of the Season nominees
Manchester City and Liverpool dominate the Premier League’s shortlist for Player of the Season – with Eden Hazard the only player among the seven nominees not to play for the two title contenders. The league’s top two, who can both win the title on Sunday, boast three representatives each on the list.Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva represent the reigning champions and current leaders, while Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have been nominated from the Reds.Salah, the Premier League’s top goalscorer, won the award last year, however he controversially missed out on a nomination for PFA Player of the Year this season. That prize went to Van Dijk, while Sterling won the prestigious Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year award and the PFA Young Player of the Year. The race for the Premier League’s Player of the Season award will likely come down to a head-to-head between those two players.
