But Shelvey, 26, is now nearing full fitness and took part ina training session on Wednesday morning with the first team at the club’s warm weather training camp in Spain.A statement on Newcastle United’s official website said: “The second day of Newcastle United’s Spanish training camp saw Jonjo Shelvey step up his return from a thigh injury.“Midfield ace Shelvey joined in with some of Wednesday morning’s session and it is hoped he will continue to edge nearer to a return to action over the next few days – although he won’t be involved in Saturday’s friendly against CSKA Moscow.” His return to training is a major boost to Rafael Benitez as he battles to keep the club in the Premier League.Newcastle are sitting just a point above the relegation zone following Monday night’s 1-1 draw with Wolves at Molineux, when they conceded a controversial late equaliser. With no game this weekend due to the FA Cup, Newcastle do not play again until February 23 – against Huddersfield at St James’ Park – and Benitez will be hopeful Shelvey can feature.
