England made it to the final stage of the UEFA Nations League in dramatic fashion with a stunning turnaround victory over Croatia at Wembley.Quickfire goals from Jesse Lingard and Harry Kane cancelled out Andrej Kramaric’s deflected effort to round off a magical 2018 for the Three Lions.4

Kane’s sliding finish proved to be the winner

Going into the game, both teams had a chance of finishing first, second or bottom of the group and England nearly found themselves a goal down inside two minutes.A mix-up at the back between Jordan Pickford and Fabian Delph helped the ball break to Ante Rebic but his chip sailed over the bar. After that, Gareth Southgate’s men seized control of the game.Raheem Sterling missed a glorious chance to give them the lead when put through on goal but the Manchester City man was unable to show the same composure as he did against Spain last month and struck the ball straight at the keeper.Harry Kane then scooped the ball over from the resulting corner after latching onto John Stones’s header.4

The striker then had two quickfire efforts on goal, the first cleared off the line before Kane had his second effort saved byLovre Kalinic.Ross Barkley then sliced a volley into the side-netting with the game somehow goalless at half-time.Sterling had another opportunity to give the Three Lions the lead but failed to properly control Kane’s pass from the left.And then Kramaric gave the visitors the lead against the run of play on 57 minutes. The frontman picked up the ball inside the box before eventually getting his shot away, which took a huge deflection off Eric Dier before dropping into the net.4

The game appeared to be drifting away from England until Jesse Lingard and Jadon Sancho were thrown on and their impact was immediate.The hosts found a second wind and Lingard levelled the score – tapping the ball home on the goalline after Joe Gomez’s long throw bamboozled the Croatian defence.Croatia nearly regained straight away but Pickford got a strong hand to Domagoj Vida’s powerful header.And Zlatko Dalic’s men were made to pay when Kane turned home Ben Chilwell’s free-kick from the left on 85 minutes to send England to the finals of the Nations League.4
